Forklift safety guide
A free guide to forklift safety is available from Toyota Material Handling UK. Published as part of its year-long safety campaign – 'Taking care with Toyota' – the guide covers key areas of forklift safety, aiming to reduce risks as well as operational costs.
HSE figures show that, on average, 60 people are killed each year in workplace transport accidents and a further 2,000 suffer serious injuries. Forklift trucks are involved in nearly a quarter of these incidents.
Marc Paxford, Toyota's operator training manager, said the guide is ideal for both managers and operators, as it includes "vital information on law and legislation, advice on operator training, tips on accident prevention, safety check lists and a basic reminder guide to stacking with both a forklift and a reach truck".
Tony Wallis, operations director, added: "We believe promoting safety in the workplace goes beyond providing our customers with the safest trucks, it also requires that we demonstrate to companies the benefits of training their people and putting processes in place to create a culture of safety."
