Industrial investment is key to manufacturing growth, Siemens conference to hear

Global manufacturing giant Siemens will debate how boosting investment in the UK and Ireland's industrial infrastructure could help UK manufacturers overcome core challenges in skills and productivity at a landmark conference this July.

Siemens' 'Answers for Industry' conference and exhibition will hear the views of leading industrialists, policy makers and operational engineers on how these isles can drive factory and plant efficiencies.

The event takes place from 4—5 July at the Manchester Central Convention Complex and features a stellar conference speaker line-up alongside an exhibition of latest industrial technology.

"The key challenge we face in the UK is that we underperform on investment, in technology and manufacturing plants in comparison with other industrial nations – for example the investment level is 35% lower in the UK than in Germany," comments Siemens Industry Sector UK and Ireland managing director Juergen Maier.

"This conference will explore the opportunities to address this challenge, while offering manufacturing the requisite profile and support that it deserves.'"

Siemens is staging a wide-ranging conference programme. Issues addressed are due to range from smarter investment aimed at helping industry beat both skills shortages and rising energy bills, to health and safety – with HSE chair Judith Hackitt outlining the challenges manufacturers must meet while boosting operational efficiency.

The conference programme also includes sessions from Rolls-Royce, detailing how the latest technology is driving up manufacturing excellence, productivity and agility.

Additionally, a continuous improvement masterclass will be on offer from Finbarr Dowling, who heads up Siemens' word-class Congleton manufacturing plant.

Energy themed seminars will also discuss how renewable technologies and plant projects can help drive profitability and sourcing green finance for factory improvements.

Completing the line-up, Siemens industrial technology exhibition event will showcase wide-ranging innovations aimed at maximising productivity and efficiency, and sustaining growth.

Key exhibits will include high efficiency drives that can deliver 70% energy savings, and water filtration solutions capable of massively reducing water usage and effluent production.
