Changing lamps? - eliminate the risk of falling from height May 2007

A fully automated system for lowering and raising lighting fixtures weighing between 5 and 100kg is now available. The height of an installed unit can be 3 to 25 metres. With just the flick of a switch, or using wireless remote control, even an unskilled operator can lower the fixture from high or inaccessible spaces to a safe level for lamp replacement.

Luxlift – from Panasonic Electric Works – removes many of the concerns regarding changing bulbs and working at height. The national press has written much about the expenses incurred by building owners when renewing light bulbs. Strict observance of health and safety at work regulations is the cause. The risks of falling have always been present. Now the risks for building managers have intensified. By installing luxlift into high-ceiling or inaccessible roof spaces, many of the concerns that those responsible for illumination can be eliminated.

The designed light level can be restored quickly. It is no longer necessary to wait for specialist lighting contractors. Should a light fail above a particular workplace, escalator, stairwell or other difficult-to-access space, it can be changed in seconds.

Luxlift ensures that all power is isolated. The lamp change can be done in total electrical and physical safety. When the bulb exchange is completed, the unit is raised automatically and power contact made to ignite the lamp. All of this is achieved without the need for anyone to leave the “flat, safe work surface” that safe working practices now demand.
