A company dedicated to improving the performance of its customers has recently completed the training of the 10,000th person on the specially designed one-day behavioural change safety course.
The Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC) passport course delivered in partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) Core Team by Pivotal Performance has been running since July 2003. The 10,000th delegate, Mathew Hollis, is employed by Balfour Kilpatrick in Woolwich and has now completed the course.
The ABC course was designed to ensure that all project staff and workers on Jobcentre Plus projects were trained to understand the correct assessment of hazards and their risks, together with solving day to day issues with practical solutions.
The result of adopting an integrated approach to health & safety, together with the mandatory requirement that all workers must pass the one day ABC passport course, is that accidents have decreased year by year. So much so that on 4 occasions the project has exceed 1 million work hours without a RIDDOR accident and the Accident Incident Rate (AIR) is nearly 10 times better than the published HSE construction statistics for 2005/06. The project is based on a strong partnering ethos which encourages positive reporting.
Stephen Coppin, head of EHS Lend Lease Projects said: “This is a clear example of what can be achieved through the client taking a responsible and proactive lead to health and safety on their projects.”
