BMW apprentice to advise on learner experience

To mark the beginning of National Apprenticeship Week, EngineeringUK has announced the appointment of Chris Hinton (pictured), a 20 year old engineering apprentice with BMW, to sit on its high level Education and Skills advisory panel and add a learner voice to proceedings.
Hinton, who is an electrical and electronic engineering apprentice at BMW's Hams Hall plant,
was appointed to represent the 'learner voice' and advise and inform the panel on shaping and improving the learner experience of further education across the UK.
Chris will attend his first panel meeting on February 16 to comment and advise on a wide range of items including the issue of mathematics which is a key subject at level 3 required for progression to HE Engineering courses.
"I am delighted to be given the opportunity to join Engineering UK's Education and Skills Panel. I am looking forward to providing my input on some of the key issues affecting engineering apprentices and learners across the UK. I am particularly interested in ensuring that the panel has an accurate and up to date view of the current structure of various apprenticeships and how academic and vocation experiences are balanced. I would also like to share my experience of how current issues such as the economic climate and the improvement of environmental engineering have affected education and apprenticeships."
