When Border Barrier Systems was faced with an expanding order book for its unique Rhino water-fill barrier system, it knew it had to find an alternative method of manhandling its product on to lorries and around the site.
It turned to B&B Attachments, supplier of masts and forklift truck attachments, for a solution. The company was able to specify a Kaup rotating bale clamp, which has been specifically adapted for then Rhino Barriers.
Now, Border Barrier Systems has not only saved costs on manual labour which necessitated using three men to handle the Rhino Barriers weighing 60 kilos each, it has also speeded up loading with one driver able to handle 1520 units a month. In addition, the company has pre-empted potential health and safety issues which might have arisen by employees physically lifting heavy weights.
The Kaup rotating bale clamp supplied by B&B Attachments has enabled Border Barrier Systems to improve the handling speed and efficiency. Fitted on to a Manitou forklift truck, the clamp can lift the barriers either vertically or horizontally transferring them to the stocking area and then on to vehicles for onward transportation to its customers throughout the United Kingdom.
“The attachment is used everyday and we couldn’t do without it”, says Philip Armstrong, director of Border Barriers. “The combination of the Manitou forklift truck and B&B Attachments’ clamp has ensured better / faster and safer handling of our barriers.”
The 2T 453G rotating bale clamp specified by B&B Attachments, exclusive UK distributors for Kaup attachments, has been designed to provide excellent visibility for the lift truck driver, enabling loads to be moved quickly and easily.
Design to rotate 360°, the clamp has a thin arm profile, narrow frame width and has Hardox wear strips fitted to the underside of the arms.
Border Barrier Systems both hires and sells its road and pedestrian safety barrier system to companies throughout the UK and Europe in the areas of construction, civil engineering, local authorities, traffic management and events and shows. Manufactured using rotationally mould heavy-duty polythene, the barriers are easy assembled using a pin drop system and are then filled with water.
