A bespoke storage facility is bringing a real polish to a car care and vehicle valeting product business

Autoglym, a company whose brand is synonymous with high quality car care and vehicle valeting products, has recently opened a global distribution centre in Letchworth Garden City. The bespoke storage solution in the facility, which consists of wide aisle pallet racking, pallet live storage lanes and picking levels, has been manufactured and installed by LINPAC Storage Systems.

Situated close to the company’s manufacturing plant in Letchworth, the distribution centre supplies Autoglym products to all sectors of the automotive industry in the UK and over 40 countries around the world. Measuring 46,000 sq ft, the new building is four times the size of the company’s previous warehouse, a factor that is testament to the continuing growth of the company and the popularity of its products in the automotive market.

Mark Evans, site manager (logistics) for the new Letchworth distribution centre says: “Although we were ordering new racking, we also wanted some existing LINPAC racking moving to the new premises. We chose to award the contract to LINPAC because they offered the most professional service, a competitive price and, of course, the racking was compatible.

“We were able to carry on working whilst the racking was being erected and I was impressed by that – the installers worked alongside us and were very accommodating.”

As well as being the distribution centre for the world, the Letchworth facility also hosts the assembly operation for valet packs and gift packs. All of the products for this side of the business are held on dedicated lanes of pallet live racking which are adjacent to the picking and packing section.

Bulk stock is housed on five levels of wide aisle pallet racking and accessed by reach trucks. There is a separate section of the warehouse for hazardous products which are also stored on pallet racking.

To store the smallest items in the Autoglym range, chipboard picking shelves have been installed by LINPAC in the ground floor bays. Products from these areas are hand picked by the warehouse operatives.
