Pallet and cantilever racking systems designed and installed by Pro-Dek Storage Systems have provided Yorkshire Stainless with high-density storage facilities at a new warehouse in Rotherham.
Yorkshire Stainless is a leading stockist and manufacturer of tubular stainless steel products, including pipes, flanges and fittings in standard and specially manufactured forms. The new 1100m² warehouse was needed to provide extra storage capacity to cope with increasing demand and free space in the main production unit.
Fittings are delivered to the company in timber boxes typically measuring 1200mm wide x 1000mm deep x 900mm high and weighing up to 1.25 tonnes. The Pro-Dek pallet racking has been designed to provide 420 locations for these products. It is six metres high and has been installed in a single-sided run measuring 47.5 metres and a double-sided run measuring 30.5 metres, both having five or six storage levels.
Over 220 linear metres of cantilever racking, 6.5 metres high and with seven storage levels, have been installed to stock pipe in lengths up to six metres, either in timber boxes or unboxed. Full boxes weigh up to 1500kg. The racking arms, which are individually rated to carry 750kg, are 1000mm long and have end stops and rubber pads to protect the unboxed products. They can be adjusted in 100mm increments.
The installation, including floor-fixed guidance rails for the Sidetracker narrow-aisle truck used in the warehouse, was completed on schedule in three weeks.
