Aearo, a global safety company, has improved its carbon footprint and safety performance at its manufacturing facility in Cheshire through the support of materials handling supplier Barloworld Handling.
Aearo is a Group of companies that manufacture safety glasses, hearing protection and communication equipment for use with hard hats and crash helmets. The company has been manufacturing at facilities in Poynton, near Stockport for over 25 years and has recently updated its fleet of materials handling equipment bringing improved safety, reduced environmental impact and reduced cost to the site.
The new fleet was supplied by Barloworld Handling who provided not only the trucks but also a battery management system with clear benefits for Aearo. Total Battery Management (TBM) is a solution offered by Barloworld, which incorporates Macbat and Hoppecke batteries.
There are four key benefits:
- Macbat Regeneration: Batteries can be regenerated to provide optimum performance throughout their contract life.
- Trac Air Battery System: This provides an air circulation system that can reduce charging time, reduce emissions produced by charging by up to 75%, decrease the need to top up the battery to approximately once every 3 months, and allow opportunity charging without damaging the battery.
- Side Extraction: All Hyster electric counterbalance and warehouse trucks can have side battery extraction that removes the risk of accidents through swinging loads and chains shorting the cells on top of the battery.
- Cost Reduction: The most significant benefits are the increased safety and cost reduction that Total Battery Management brings.
Operators are pleased with the driveability of the trucks. They particularly like the ergonomic features such as the sensitive and accurate hydraulics, the excellent visibility from the front of the cab and the smoothness of the lift and general operation.
