Brewery and pub operator Shepherd Neame has selected Sterling Commerce Managed Services to optimise its supply chain and accelerate business growth
One of the UK’s oldest family-run breweries and pub operators, Shepherd Neame, has selected Sterling Commerce to provide complete management, support and delivery of its B2B infrastructure. With Sterling Commerce Managed Services, Shepherd Neame will benefit from improved visibility and control over the order management process and interactions with retail customers, ultimately increasing the efficiency of its supply chain operations.
Based in Kent, Shepherd Neame is a family-run business dating back to 1698, famous for traditional Kentish ales such as Spitfire and Bishops Finger and world-renowned lagers brewed under license, such as Asahi and Holsten Export. With a turnover of £95.3m in 2006, the company operates around 380 pubs across the South East of the UK and also distributes its products direct to supermarkets and other national retailers.
As part of its strategy to grow sales to large retailers across the UK, Shepherd Neame required a reliable B2B infrastructure to enable improved management over its supply chain. Shepherd Neame selected Sterling Commerce because of its ability to provide the real-time visibility needed across the company’s business transactions and enable faster on- boarding of new customers. The Managed Services team will fully integrate into existing ERP systems and will take responsibility for the delivery and management of Shepherd Neame’s B2B infrastructure to free up the family-run company’s internal resources to focus on its core competencies; the brewing and delivery of Kentish ales and its international lager portfolio.
Shepherd Neame will also deploy Sterling Commerce’s Web Tracking Tool which will provide the ability to look deeper into the business process at each stage, identify and correct document errors, auditing any changes in the process and load the document back into the same stage of the business process without disruption.
Jonathan Neame, Chief Executive at Shepherd Neame said: “Sterling Commerce Managed Services provides us with the means to improve our service to large retail customers by providing transparency across our business processes, improving order management and guaranteeing document delivery time. They will provide the level of control we would expect of an in-house solution, but at a lower total cost of ownership and with the support of Sterling Commerce’s expertise in business process management.”
David Carmichael, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Sterling Commerce added: “Sterling Commerce Managed Services provides Shepherd Neame with a complete B2B solution to handle its growing retail supply operations. The scalability of the Sterling Commerce solution gives the company the ability to maintain its competitive edge, improve customer service and handle future growth without the need for future capital investment in hardware or software.”
